The history of the global brand “Molicel” began in 1977 in Canada. In the physics laboratory of the University of British Columbia (UBC), the company “Moli Energy” was founded. Its mission was to commercialize rechargeable lithium battery technology, and it became the first in the world to achieve this.
However, in 1989, due to safety concerns regarding its products, the company faced a serious crisis that led to a massive recall of batteries and subsequent financial difficulties.
The revival of the brand took place in 1998, when the assets of “Moli Energy” were acquired by a Taiwanese group, leading to the creation of “E-One Moli Energy Corp.” From that moment, the company became part of a large Taiwanese conglomerate, focusing its activities on the development and production of high-power energy cells.
The headquarters of E-One Moli Energy Corp. is located in Taipei, Taiwan. The main production facilities are concentrated in factories in the cities of Tainan and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Despite Taiwanese management, the company maintains strong ties with Canada, where an important research and development (R&D) center operates in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. This center continues to work on innovations in chemical compositions and battery technologies.
Molicel specializes in cylindrical lithium-ion cells in the popular 18650 and 21700 formats. Their products are known for low internal resistance, which allows the cells to heat up less and work more efficiently under high loads.
The full-scale war in Ukraine has expanded the use of FPV drones. They are used as strike drones to hit targets, as reconnaissance drones, and for various other tasks.
Every drone requires a stable power supply that can also withstand peak loads. Companies manufacturing battery packs for drones use different cells from various producers. However, almost every company works with Molicel batteries. Thanks to their ability to deliver huge currents without overheating, they have become one of the main choices for powering unmanned systems.
Our company BTRY.ENERGY actively integrates the latest Molicel developments into its products, constantly updating the assortment in line with the release of new models.
At present, we mainly use Molicel cells in the 21700 form factor. We can offer serial packs for FPV drones, copters, and other UAVs: batteries in 6s2p and 6s3p configurations for strike drones, and packs in 6s4p and 6s6p configurations for heavier copters and aircraft.
